EXPECTATIONS FOR TEACHING IN BIOCHEMISTRY

Academic staff are expected to undertake various teaching responsibilities each academic year, as outlined below. Please note that there may be instances in which staff may be asked to take on additional responsibilities, depending on current needs (e.g. to cover Sabbatical leave). Similarly, there may be occasions where staff may have a reduced teaching load if other significant teaching responsibilities are undertaken.

University Teaching Officers (UTOs)

Teaching Expectations

UTOs: (Employed by the University)

  • Delivering teaching in person

Note: UTOs  must not subcontract teaching to Post Graduate student or Research Associate, unless there is prior agreement with Director of Teaching (DoT)/ADoT

e.g. Sabbatical cover, illness etc.

  • Teaching load to be allocated equitably between academic staff

For example, in each academic year:

Ten Part I/II lectures, one Part I practical, one BMB Journal Club session, one examining stint, two Part II or III projects, Part II & III Peer Group organiser/attendee or PG Peer Research Group organiser/attendee.
